Hello everyone, and welcome to Horsin’ Around!

Horsin' Around a monthly article that brings you the latest news in and around the dA Equine Community! Horsin' Around began with MichelleWalker, who passed it into my hands. As Michelle always said: I’d be grateful if you could give me feedback on what you think of it, and if you have any suggestions for future issues, I’d love to hear them. If you think that someone you devWatch deserves a feature, let me know and I’ll try and feature them here! I hope you enjoy this issue, and thanks for reading!

:bulletblue: Hello and thank you for joining us! Could you tell us a little about yourself?
Yeah, of course! My name is Puck, I'm 16 years old and hopefully in a few years studying medicine. My biggest passion is road cycling, beside that I draw and photograph a lot of stuff!

:bulletpink: Cool. How long have you been creating Equine artwork for?
Eh, hard question! I think I started drawing them when I was about 6 or 7.

:bulletyellow: How did you learn to create your artwork? Were you self-taught, or did you learn through a course at school?
Self-taught. I never took lessons, I think I'd be too stubborn for that!

:bulletblue: Interesting. Can you share with us what your very favorite piece in your gallery is?
This was a commissioned work, one of my first few paintings. I learned a lot while doing this one!

:bulletpink: Looks amazing! Do you have an OC (original character)? Can you tell us a little about him/her?
Yep, I do, she's a wolf though. I still need to revise all my equine OC's sometime, when I have the time. Bundy is based on my reallife dog, her personality is based on mine though.

:bulletyellow: Awesome! Do you have any tutorials or tips to share with budding artists?
I do! The tutorial is, well, really old and it sucks but maybe it can still help some people out. The walkthrough is a bit more recent!

:bulletblue: And how long (on average) does it take you to make a finished piece?
Phew, I really have no idea! It depends too on the medium, size and complexity. Comic pages can be done in a few days while an oil painting takes weeks!

:bulletpink: Where do you get your inspiration from?
Other artists, series I like to watch, people I meet and most of all nature. Nature makes you think about stuff!

:bulletyellow: That's interesting. Is there any particular medium you would like to try?
I'd really like to make a polyclay sculpture one day!

:bulletblue: Thank you for your time. Any last pieces of advice you can give to your fellow equine artists?
Make sketches to get known to the anatomy and observe the thing(s) you're going to draw. Observe them hard!

UE Updates February 2013Group Updates
Hello all, we hope that everyone has started the new year well and we are looking forward to what the rest of the year has in store for us all. As mentioned last month in our update we were going to have a look at the mutant gene rule and how we could better suit our members with their needs. After much discussion we have decided to open a folder specifically for equines which would fall under the mutant gene rule. This means you will now be able to submit your naturally colored horses with no other fantasy elements, yet have impossible markings. In order to keep the focus of the group on the fantasy aspect it was originally founded on, we will only allow limited submissions (5) per user to the Mutant Gene folder per month.
