This is a Binoubu (species I made up) calf :).
The 'Noubu are ungulates that appeared in dreams I had the fall of 2010. This is a pic of an adult that I've been working on, on and off, for over a year:

I am being very picky with the detailing because I want to draw them as accurately as my unconscious imagination showed them to me, so it's going to take a while to finish that one ^^;

They're magical creatures that have amethyst like crystals form from their skull and spine. In my first encounter, I was sitting on a hill, and a herd of them were migrating in the fields below. A friend whispered to me "Those are the Binoubu. I've never seen one in real life before! I thought they were extinct. It's said to be very good luck if one looks you in the eye."
Shortly after, I made eye contact with one. Haha apparently my unconscious think's I'm special or something :XD:

Anyway, the reminded me the most of a strange cross between Elk and Gemsbok/Oryx in anatomy, and some had bongo antelope ish markings. And they were purple! :D

The calves had huge eyes and wisps of long hair (I exaggerated the eyes in this piece a bit). They have really derpy squishy faces XD

They've become my sort of go-to for art inspiration. Feeling down? Draw a 'Noubu. Art block? 'Noubu. etc etc.

Also, I don't feel like I should have to say this but you never know with people so... this is a closed species. Please don't make a character or anything out of one. They're pretty personal to me :). Thanks

Do you think you'll ever finish that adult? I hope you get the chance to because it looked so beautiful. This calf is adorable with the large eyes. I also love your monochromatic touch to this as well as the shading. Very gorgeous.
